Initial Steps and Continuous Expansion
Building the repository is a stepwise process. Each step produces information
that is used by the next step. The last step is one that is usually done on a
project by project basis to fill out the repository.

  1. Process Model - Define the business domains and business sub-
    domains.
  2. Data Model Subject Areas - Define the major subject areas of the data
model and assign the sub-domain owner to the subject area.
  3. Extend the process model to include the flow of subject area information.
  4. Architecture Layers - Define the architecture layers of the "To Be" or
    "Reference" architecture.
  5. Application Composites - Define all applications integration points at the
    composite level.
  6. Strategy Model - Document the strategy model and include the IT
projects supporting the line of business initiatives.
  7. Projects - Add projects as they are being developed by:
  • Adding entities and relationships to Subject Areas involved
  • Adding components to application composites
  • Creating  “How It Works” diagrams within the scope of the project

Most of the steps will require participation from the corporate management to
review and approve. Opportunities will be discovered to extend the toolkit to
meet the specific visualization needs of the enterprise.
